Taking Ownership of Your Work

Values Determine Behavior

Be careful of your thoughts, for your thoughts become your words. Be careful of your words, for your words become your actions. Be careful of your actions, for your actions become your habits. Be careful of your habits, for your habits become your character. Be careful of your character, for your character becomes your destiny. — Chinese proverb

At PCI we believe values reflect our most deeply held beliefs and reflect our most important priorities. Our values impact the way we interact with our clients, our colleagues and others in the community.

In many cases, businesses and individuals, focus on setting goals. What we noticed, though, is that achieving a goal is not fulfilling, unless accomplishing that goal is related to nurturing one of our core values.

As we grow, our goal is to familiarize new people with our notthebigcompany culture, helping them become acquainted with our system of beliefs and values. This will, in return, contribute to a more cohesive workplace, where all the team is focused on internal growth and providing impeccable services for our clients.

Say you want to become an astronaut, you’d probably aim to work for NASA or in the military, right? Why? Because your workplace will equip you with a certain skill-set and it will also shape your values and beliefs.

“What makes it great here at PCI is that we discuss our values up front,” as Stephen Newchok, PCI Associate says. There is an exchange that happens between you and your workplace. It’s not just about what we do, but how we do it. You contribute to PCI’s success, while also nurturing the company values through your own beliefs and perspectives. Be clear on what your values are. Bring them forth and see whether they are compatible with those of PCI. It’s up to you to fairly meet your company’s expectations.
